Why buy a customised Number Plate?
Upgrading to a customised number plate is the ultimate “low-cost, high-impact” modification. It is a cheap and subtle way to transform your car, giving it a premium, bespoke look without the price tag of a full body kit or new wheels.
A custom-made plate is the perfect finishing touch for private number plates and private registrations, ensuring your unique ID isn’t hidden on a boring, flat piece of plastic.
At Harlow Number Plates, we specialise in:
3D GEL Plates: A sleek, domed resin finish for a glossy, “wet-look” depth.
4D Laser Plates: Sharp, precision-cut acrylic for a bold, high-impact architectural feel.

What documents are required?
To keep your plates legal and follow DVLA rules, we need to see two original documents:
Proof of Identity: (e.g., your Driving Licence, Passport, or a recent utility bill).
Proof of Entitlement: (e.g., your V5C Logbook, V750 Certificate of Entitlement, or V778 Retention Document). Note: We cannot legally manufacture your plates until we have verified these.
How does Click & Collect work?
It’s the fastest way to get your new look!
Design & Order: Choose your 3D or 4D style on our website and select “Click & Collect” at checkout.
Bring your Docs: Head down to our Harlow shop with your original ID and V5C.
Made While You Wait: Once we’ve checked your documents, we’ll manufacture your custom plates in-store—usually in under 10 minutes!
Are tinted plates road legal?
No. While they look great for “Show Use,” tinted or smoked plates are not road legal in the UK. They reduce the reflectivity of the plate and can interfere with ANPR cameras. We offer them for off-road use only (shows/events), but for your daily driver, we recommend our crystal-clear 3D or 4D styles to stay 100% compliant
What is the correct legislation?
All legal plates must now comply with the BS AU 145e British Standard.
Characters: Must be the standard Charles Wright 2001 font.
Markings: The plate must show the name and postcode of the supplier (Harlow Number Plates) and the manufacturer of the plate material.
Finish: 3D and 4D characters are perfectly legal as long as they are a solid, non-reflective black.
